A Study on the Factors Affecting High School Students" Academic Achievements - Focusing on Smart Phone Users

Abstract

|
The purpose of this study is to analyze the socio-demographic factors that may affect academic achievements of high school students. For this purpose, questionnaires were distributed to 542 students of 6 high schools located in Chungcheongnam-do Province and Daejeon Metropolitan City. Frequency analysis, t-test, ANOVA, correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis were conducted to process the data collected from the subjects. The major outcomes from the analyses could be summed up as follows:
First, the comparative analysis of difference in academic achievements according to socio-demographic features showed a statistically significant difference in school grade, religion, health, economic status, timing of smart phone use and hours of using smart phone daily. Second, such factors as health, economic status, timing of smart phone use and hours of using smart phone daily were found to affect academic achievements of the students significantly.
Based on the outcomes of the study as above, discussions were made here to find realistic and political intervention measures to increase academic achievements of high school students.
